A powerful year of service* that gives young adults confidence, community, career pathways & education support.

An AmeriCorps City Year in the Bay Area is designed to help young adults ages 17-25 grow as people and professionals while serving in Title 1 schools in local communities. One aspect of their year of service is designed to teach them how to support, advocate for and uplift the children in their program. The other side of a City Year is designed to provide them with personal and professional training, a sense of community, career support, education scholarships and guidance to help them excel in whatever lies beyond their year with us.

Who Serves at City Year?

City Year in the Bay Area is designed to support adults ages 17-25 at various stages of their life. Whether you’re looking for a college scholarship or career building experience, City Year has unique programs built to help you succeed beyond your year of service.

  • Young adults ages 17+ join City Year to help them figure out what is next. Some apply so they can meet like minded friends who want to make a difference in the world. Some apply to build out their college applications, access scholarship opportunities and lean into our network of over 100 college and university partners. Others join to explore career pathways and learn how to rise up into adulthood in a supportive environment.

  • Some of our applicants join after finishing a four year degree. These young adults are usually exploring ways to boost their applications to law school or other masters degree programs or figure out if they want to continue expanding their work towards social service / civic leadership.

  • Some of our applicants are looking to establish a powerful mark on their resume to impress future employers. In addition to multiple Learning & Development certifications, a City Year of service offers exposure to multiple partner companies, an alumni network and access to silicon valley events rife with networking opportunities.
